Over $4 million for genomics solutions in health
Montréal, October 18, 2022 – Génome Québec is happy to announce today the eleven research teams, from four Québec universities, that have received major funding in genomics. The total investment, including that of public and private partners, amounts to more than $4 million as part of the first round of the Genomics integration program – Human health.
This collaboration between researchers and the public and private sectors meets a real need in the genomics innovation community, both for the discovery of new treatments and to accelerate the integration of genomics in the clinic. The wide variety of projects testifies to Québec's strength in precision medicine and proposes concrete solutions for cancer, diabetes, rare diseases, and infectious diseases. "I am delighted to see several innovative partnerships come to fruition, including the development of a genomics-based method to identify the source of contaminated water at the origin of cases of legionellosis (pneumonia), a serious and costly problem for our health system," said Stéphanie Lord-Fontaine, Vice President, Scientific Affairs at Génome Québec.
